Update!

 Hello Hello!

It's been so long since I have posted anything on this precious blog. I was a bit surprised that every month there are still people who come across my post even though my last post was in 2019. I haven't stopped watching K-Drama's but in recent years I just haven't watched as many as I used to. However, there are dramas that I want to chat about. The year 2021 has been a pretty nice year for dramas and I want to share my thoughts. If there are any dramas that you'd recommend let me know and I would love to review them. I started this blog because I wanted a place to make friends and build a community around the joy that Korean dramas have brought me. My desire is still the same. I will also introduce Turkish dramas into my review because they gave me a great source of comfort at the beginning of 2020. I hope everyone that reads this is filled with the joy and satisfaction that comes from watching dramas.

Happy Watchings blissed ones.

Woman Crush Wednesday

Ya'll, I am stoked because today is Wednesday!!!! Today means I get to talk about one of my all-time girl crushes HA JI WON!!!!!!!

I love this actress so much! I love her tomboy style mixed with her classic feminity. This woman is a pure force of talent! I love her so much and I am glad that I get to gush on about this beautiful woman.

I first saw Ha Ji Won in the classic drama "Secret Garden". I must say it took me a while to start this drama but once I gave it a chance, it was amazing! One of the best things about this drama was Ha Ji Won. I was so impressed with her ability to switch between Gil Im-Ra and Kim Joo-Woon. The way she was able to take on different facial expressions and physical characteristics were stunning. I was sucked into her performance. When the drama ended I wanted to watch more of her!

So it lead me to the drama "The King 2 Hearts"! The role Kim Hang Ah... that role was straight gangster! No lie, I loved the sheer physicality of this role. She was incredibly athletic and mentally strong. I wanted to workout, shoot guns, and do military drills because of this role. I was impressed by Ha Ji Won's ability to add such warmth and vulnerability to this character as well. This drama solidified Ha Ji Won's place in my heart.

So as soon as I'd finished "The King 2 Hearts"... I found "Empress Ki". This drama was the best saguek I'd ever watched until "Six Flying Dragons". So as it stands, this is my number 2 drama in the historical drama department. Ki Seung-Nyang was a sheer delight to watch. Every role that I'd seen Ha Ji Won play was a strong woman, but Ki Seung-Nyang was the strongest woman I'd seen portrayed in a K-drama. This character could hold her own with any soldier, and once she became Empress Ki, she could hold her own with the best minds of Joseon. I binged this drama in one week. I was dead tired by the last episode, but my heart was so full. My eyes were also really swollen by the last episode as well.

When the "Time We Were Not In Love" was advertised to come out, I was ecstatic! I'd watched the Taiwanese version and I was curious to see how Ha Ji Won would take on the role. It was the first time I'd seen her in a role that didn't require her to be athletic. At first, the character of Oh Ha-Na was a bit too cutesy for me, but as the series went on I fell hard for this character. I loved the chemistry between Lee Jin Wook and Ha Ji Won. The energy between them was incredibly intimate and sweet, even when they were fighting.

My favorite role that Ha Ji Won has played in is "Chronicles of a Blood Merchant". This movie is simply riveting. I was floored by Ha Ji Won's portrayal of Heo Ok-Ran. This beautiful woman who likes being a wife, and finds her world turned upside down when she has to confess that her eldest son isn't her husbands. I loved the ferocity in which she came at her husband when he tried to make differences. I loved I could see a mothers love pulsating through her. I don't think the actress has children, but she managed to tap into something palpable.

I haven't seen all of Ha Ji Won's works, but every role I've seen her in has given me such pleasure that I would love to recommend everything she stars in lol.

To all the Drama Lovers out there... Happy Drama Watching!

Devilish Joy

Devilish Joy had one of the best first episode's I'd seen in a long time. It's comparable to Romantic Doctor. The chemistry between the two leads was palpable. Choi Jin-Hyuk was witty, observant, and just plain ole attractive. One of my favorite actresses, Song Ha-Yoon, was beautiful in this role. I've followed her career for a couple of years now and I am always impressed by the projects that she picks.

Devilish Joy serendipitously brings together Chaebol/Doctor/ Genius businessman Gong Ma-Sung, and spoiled but good-hearted idol  Joo Gi-Bbuem. They have an incredible day together trying to get Joo Gi Bbuem back to her friends. They connect through their fears, and by the end of the day, they are smitten in love. Imagine the most romantic day, and that is the first episode. But the morale of this episode is all good things must tragically come to an end. Gong Ma-Sung overhears a conversation and as he follows the potential culprits, he gets hit by the K-Drama truck of death. 3 years later, they reconnect but their lives are drastically different.

Joo Gi-Bbeum maintained her sweetness despite the transformation of her circumstances. Once a national sweetheart, she is despised because people believe that she is responsible for the death of another celebrity. Her debts have mounted and as the head of her household, she does various jobs to support her dad and her siblings. Joo Gi-Bbuem is exploited in many circumstances, but she remains quietly resilient. Song Ha-Yoon was amazing. She's got these soft puppy eyes, and the various expressions always have a thread of sweetness to them. Playing an idol, she had all the mannerisms and quirks we see in a K-Pop star. The change we see in her body language was a note to her talent.

Gong Ma Sung was...Zaddy hahahaha. The clothing that he was styled in made in attractive. The angles they filmed him in was very nice. I loved how the portrayal of a man who knew he was dying. While he tried to balance the emotional aspects of his condition, I liked how he used a scientific approach. What sold this drama for me was the chemistry between the leads. Choi Jin Hyuk's gaze was endearing, and as I read through the comment section, we all came to the conclusion that he and Song Ha-Yoon must be dating.

This drama isn't without its flaws. Hoya plays the cousin, and the character is...annoying, endearing but annoying. The aunt was needlessly cruel. She was heartless, but we aren't given a substantive reason for the depth of her hate. The character flaws of the Doctor are especially grating. However, the romance between the leads was very enjoyable.

Moon Lovers:Scarlet Heart Review

This drama was a blockbuster that was wildly anticipated, and it left many fans drowning in their feels.

The star-studded cast was perfection. I'd be writing a dissertation if I spent my time gushing about how incredible each and every actor was. The chemistry between all parties was sensational. In the beginning, I didn't know who I wanted Hae-Soo, played by IU, to end up with. Toward the end, I was happy with her choice but I wished she'd had a bit more common sense.

The Drama starts with Hae-Soo in the present world, she gets into an accident and she is warped into Ancient Korean Civilization. She has to learn how to navigate this ancient world, and her modern talents go a long way to help incur favor. She is propelled into a world of 8 royal princes who are all entangled in royal politics. At first, she is a bystander, and then she becomes a tool to help certain brothers achieve their goals. I liked Hae-Soo's character. She was smart, endearing, and didn't put up with ancient chauvinistic nonsense. Watching her navigate her unfamiliar surroundings was enjoyable, and she starts off as an infectious character. Down the line, messed up things happen to her, and she becomes dour. The only thing I didn't like about her was her self-righteousness. This is more a testament to my personality, rather than the quality of writing. I don't believe you can apply modern ethics to ancient customs. Hindsight is 20/20, and while ancient practices maybe appalling in the modern world, those practices were the norm. Her character didn't seem to realize that you can't bend an entire civilization to your way of thinking. And you can't hold people to standards, that they can't even make sense of. I was understanding of her trying to interfere in certain situations, but her decisions ultimately backfired.

Lee Joon Gi portrayed outcast brother Wang So. This character was everything to me. He was like a rising phoenix from burning ashes. He stole my heart because he was the victim of circumstances he had no control of. In his quest to be his most honorable self, he is misunderstood and often forced to do things that go against his volition. I LOVED this character, and I was down with all of the decisions he made. I rediscovered my bloodthirsty (in drama's) thirst, and I liked how he was not above serving revenge dishes cold! This character was complex, and I want to see another drama's with a lead of a similar disposition.

The classic male lead Wang Wook is played by dreamboat Kang Ha-Neul. This character... man, he was amazing. I loved him, especially in the beginning. And while no character is perfect, his sweetness, kindness, and attentiveness made me look past some flags. When he started having to make certain decisions, I cried. I wanted him to live out the life he deserved to live, and it's unfortunate that he had to make sacrifices. I had a strange case of SLS. Most girls would want the kind of love and attention he had to give. On the other hand, he made decisions that like cutting off his nose to spite his face.

The brothers! Oh The BROTHERS!!!!!!!! I loved the dynamic between the brothers. They had such great chemistry, and the bromance was palpable. I loved their banter and the way the played off of one another. It was heartbreaking to see their relationship dissolve. The betrayals, were deep, and I kept wanting things to go back to the way they were in the beginning of the drama..

Overall, watch this drama. Prepare to get your heartbroken, the ending kind of leaves you hanging, but it didn't piss me off. Also watch the original chinese version, (I watched it, and loved it
). There is a sequel, but I haven't watched it, but I heard it was good.
